COMPUTER
EXPERIENCE
OF PUPILS ENTERING
YEAR 7
|
Pupils join the
school in Year 7 from about 30 different primary schools.
Their experience of using a computer at school is
therefore probably quite varied. It will depend on the
financial resources available, either from government
funds or more directly from parents and fund raising
events. It will also depend on the motivation, training
and ability of the staff of the school and most important
on the time available in the curriculum.
An increasing number of pupils have
a computer at home. For how many of them is a computer a
toy for playing games on? A now forgotten birthday
present? Do parents who buy a computer (and printer) for
work have children who use it for work too?
A survey of pupils within their
first term at this school should give us invaluable
information. It will help in many ways - from planning
the content and depth of future lessons to encouraging
homework to be done on a computer.
